Break

Prints by James Otto Lewis. From The Aboriginal Portfolio. Philadelphia: J. O. Lewis, 1835-1836. Lithographs by Lehman & Duval. Full original hand coloring. Small folio; images vary in size, but all ca. 14 x 10. All with good margins, though some slightly trimmed. Some with light mat burns and other minor blemishes. All otherwise in very good condition and with good color, except as noted.

A group of the rarest of Indian prints, from the first published collection of portraits of native North Americans. These portraits were made "on the spot and in the field" by James Otto Lewis, mostly during a series of treaty meetings in the Upper Great Lakes region during the 1820s.
