A series of images from Buel's delightful book on the "Lives and Wonderful Adventures" of various "Celebrated Indian Fighters, Scouts, Hunters and Guides." This volume was written just after or during the period when many of these figures were cutting a wide swath of fame across the American West. The images are hardly first-hand, but they are of the period and they do reflect the widely held understanding of the adventures of these "heroes of the Plains."
